Hey,
it's been almost 2 weeks since i've last written an entry and with good reason, i've been busy getting situated in Burnaby.
Ok where was i last? I'm going just by the pictures i've taken, because i can't remenber the exact order all that happend :) so bear with me.
After the others left on monday, because they had to get back to work, Willard and i drove around and got something to eat. We sat on the patio and saw a bunch of houseboats, which looked really nice:
We drove around a lot and looked at places that sounded interesting and found this place:
Which ist obviously named "goats on the roof". In there you could buy a bunch of fairtrade stuff and the even made their own Beef and Salmom(!) Jerky:
Somewhere along the way Willard said i'd have to try fish 'n' chips and i even put vinegar on my chips. Sitting there with the sun sinking beyond the horizon we noticed this lady, who apparently thought of herself as a shark :D:
In the mornings Willard was always up way too early and had already seen the tide come and go before i even got out of bed. But i had to see that for myself so one morning i got up early (at least i thought it was :) ) and got down to the beach:
But on Thursday it was time to leave the condo behind and set off towards Burnaby and my room there.
On this day i made the mistake of walking to metrotown. The hill was awfully steep and long, it rained and i had no umbrella. All in all pretty shitty and to add insult to injury when i came back i noticed that i hadn't packed my comfortable sweatpants. On the next day i went by bus and was surprised of the sheer size of metrotown (which is a mall btw :D). I met one of my roommates who is a vietnamese student who also started at bcit. Turns out he doesn't talk to much and keeps mostly to himself. I had a lot of stuff to buy: a matress topper because my matress was hard as a brick, some cushions and so on. On saturday i was invited to a bbq at Kittys (a friend of the family). She gave a BBQ for the kids of her church and they welcomed me into their mids. On the next day Kitty and Rob (her Husband) took me to Whiterock (which really has a white rock, who would have thought :D):
Kitty has a dog, that is by my calculation from before 1/3 of a real dog, so i could be conviniently be carried in a backpack:
On Sunday the landlord offered to drive to ikea with me, which i accepted graciously :). There i bought a desk, an office chair and a lamp which make my room much more comfortable.
On that day i also met my other roommate who is a much more chatty canadian/chinese student from Trail who also just started at bcit. On Tuesday then was Orientation day (or more fitting chaos day ;D). Lexie (the international coordinator) led us all into a classroom and welcomed us to bcit. There i discovered that they put all the germans together. After a short Q&A with Lexie about what would happen next we dispersed to meet again at 2pm for pizza and pop. Surprisingly the Vice president of the school turned up and showed us around a bit and explained a lot. There is a Tim Horton's, a Quiznos, a Whitespot and a pub on campus. After that it wasn't long until pizza time, where we all met again and had another Q&A this time with Justin the Vice president, who turns out is one of the initiators of the program. I met a lot of people that day and we would meet again on friday for Froshfest on Campus. When the last pizza was gone, we got our bcit tshirts and mine turned out to be a bit snug. First thing after that i went to the bcit merch store and bought a pair of sweatpants.
On the next day i had Class at 9:30: Artificial Intelligence for Games. A really interesting class, which seems to be on the level i'm at the moment. After that came Games Development where we have to program a 3D game in groups of 4 until the end of the semester.
On Thursday i bought a lot of electronics like a monitor and some speakers. Nothing interesting else :D
Friday was Froshfest which was overall pretty lame, but the group i got to know on tuesday got together again and we decided to meet again at a club in downtown that same evening.
The Roxy (the afore mentioned club) was a rock club with live music, awesome :D We had some beers and talked for a while. But some of the others wanted to visit a R'n'B club and left 3 of us behind in the club. One of which was me. After another our we decided to head home, because the two of them had classes on saturday.
The next day i decided to visit stanleypark:
The walk was awesome and i will definately visit it again, but my shoes weren't made for the rubble there.
Sunday would have almost gone by without me even leaving the house but in the evening two of the german girls texted me and asked if wanted to go see a chinese market with them:
The market was pretty small, but after we'd seen everything, we sat in a bar and talked over tea, cuba libre and beer.
On Monday i met with Christina, who got me the room in burnaby. We went to a raincoat outletstore where i got a raincoat, surprisingly and after that to costco where i bought a softshell jacket and two pair of jeans.
Tuesday after class i went to granville island and stayed there until evening.
There is a market with lots of fresh fruits and other stuff:
I sat there for a while just taking in the harbor and the seagulls stealing peoples food :)
Later that evening i met with the two girls from Sunday for a drink in a pub in Gastown. There we plotted to go for Breakfast to IHOP on Friday.
Today is wednesday and in my Classes i learned about different methods of AI movement and how to deploy a gameproject to the xbox. Because this is a pretty long entry i will write the german part tomorrow.

mein letzter Eintrag ist schon gut 2 Wochen her, aber ich hatte auch viel zu tun mit Zimmer einrichten und Uni etc.
Also wo war ich stehen geblieben? Ok, ich werde den Eintrag an den Fotos ausrichten, weil ich die genau zeitliche Abfolge vergessen habe in dem das alles passiert ist :D
Nachdem die Anderen am Montag nachhause geflogen waren um rechtzeitig zur Arbeit zu kommen sind Willard und ich durch die Gegend gefahren und haben uns was zu essen besorgt. Wir haben uns auf die Veranda des Restaurants gesetzt. Von da aus konnte man ein paar coole Hausboote sehen:
Wir sind viel durch die Gegend gefahren und haben uns Sachen angeguckt die Interessant aussahen. Dabei ist uns das hier unter gekommen:
Der Name, wie sollte es auch anders sein, "Goats on the roof". Da drin konnte man jede Menge Fairtrade Zeugs kaufen unter anderem auch Lachs Jerky:
Irgendwo am Wegesrand haben Willard und ich uns dann eine Portion Fish 'n' Chips geholt und ich hab sogar Essig auf die Pommes getan. Während wir da so saßen und der Sonne beim Sinken zusahen kam diese Frau ins Blickfeld, die sich offensichtlich für einen Hai hält:
Morgens war Willard meistens schon viel zu früh auf und hatte schon Ebbe und Flut gesehen bevor ich überhaupt aus dem Bett gekrochen war. Aber das konnte ich mir ja nicht entgehen lassen, also bin ich mal sehr früh (zumindest für mich) aufgestanden und zum Strand gegangen:
Am Donnerstag war es dann Zeit das Condo hinter uns zu lassen und mein Zimmer in Burnaby zu beziehen.
An dem Tag hab ich den Fehler begangen zu Metrotown zu laufen, bergauf, im Regen und ohne Regenschirm. Alles in allem ziemlich doof und ums noch schlimmer zu machen ist mir dann aufgefallen das ich meine Jogginghose vergessen hatte einzupacken. Am nächsten Tag bin ich dann mit dem Bus hingefahren und von der größe von Metrotown überrascht (das ist übrigens ne mall). Danach habe ich einen meiner Mitbewohner kennen gelernt, einen Vietnamesen der auch gerade am BCIT angefangen hat. Wie sich heraustellt sagt er nicht viel und bleibt hauptsächlich für sich. Ich musste dann noch einige Sachen kaufen wie z.B. eine Matratzen Auflage, weil meine hart war wie Stein. Am Samstag war ich dann bei Kitty zum BBQ eingeladen, was sie für die Kinder aus ihrer Kirche veranstaltet hat, die mich herzlich aufgenommen haben. Am nächsten Tag haben Kitty und Rob mich nach Whiterock mit genommen (Die haben wirklich einen Weißen Felsen, wer hätte das gedacht :D):
Kitty hat einen kleinen Hund der nach meinen vorigen Berechnungen ungefähr 1/3 eines richtigen Hundes entspricht. Dementsprechend gut lässt er sich auch Transportieren :D:
Am Sonntag hat sich der Landlord angeboten mit mir zu Ikea zu fahren, was ich nur zu gerne angenommen habe. Da habe ich erstmal einige Sachen gekauft um mein Zimmer etwas gemütlicher zu machen:
An dem Tag habe ich dann auch meinen anderen Mitbewohner kennengelernt: ein gesprächiger Canadischer Chinese der auch am BCIT angefangen hat.
Am Dienstag war dann Orientierungstag (oder passender Chaostag). Lexie, die internationale Koordinatorin, hat uns in einen Klassenraum geführt und uns am BCIT willkommen geheißen. Dort ist mir dann aufgefallen, dass sie alle Deutschen zusammengeführt hatte. Nach einer kurzen Frage und Antwort session haben wir uns dann getrennt und würden uns um 2 für Pizza und Getränke wieder treffen. Zu unserer Überraschung hat uns dann der Vize President vom BCIT rumgeführt und uns vieles erklärt. Auf dem Campus ist ein Tim Horton's, ein Quiznos, ein Whitespot und ein Pub. Danach war es nicht mehr lang bis wir uns wieder getroffen haben und leckere Pizza verdrücken durften. Dabei hatten wir dann ein weiteres Q&A diesmal mit Justin dem Vize, wie sich heraustellte war er einer der Initiatoren des Auslandsprogramms. An dem Tag hab ich eine Menge Deutsche kennengelernt und wir haben beschlossen uns am Freitag für das Froshfest wieder zu treffen. Nachdem die Pizza alle war, haben wir unsere BCIT Tshirts bekommen, allerdings war meins ein bisschen spaxig. Direkt danach bin ich in den BCIT Merchandise Laden gegangen und hab mir ne Jogginghose gekauft :).
Am nächsten Tag hatte ich um 9:30 Künstliche Intelligenz für Spiele, ein wirklich interessanter Kurs mit einer coolen Professorin, die mich ein bisschen an meine Klassenlehrerin von Berufskolleg erinnert. Danach hatte ich Games Development wo wir in 4er Gruppen bis zum Ende des Semesters ein 3D Spiel entwickeln sollen.
Am Donnerstag habe ich nur ein paar elektronik Sachen gekauft wie nen Monitor und boxen etc.
Freitag war dann Froshfest: relativ langweilig, aber die Gruppe von Dienstag ist wieder zusammen gekommen und wir haben beschlossen am Abend in einen Club zu gehen: Das Roxy, ein Rockclub mit live Musik, yeah ;D Da haben wir ein paar Bier getrunken und uns Unterhalten, aber einige der Anderen wollten noch in einen R'n'B Club und haben mich und 2 andere im Roxy zurückgelassen. Nach einer Stunde haben wir dann Entschieden uns nach Hause zu begeben, weil die zwei anderen am nächsten Morgen Unterricht hatten.
Am nächsten Tag hab ich mich dann dazu entschlossen mir Stanleypark anzuschauen:
Es war echt klasse da und ich werde aufjedenfall nochmal hingehen und mir den Rest angucken. Ich konnte nicht so lange laufen, weil meine billigen Schuhe keinen Schutz gegen den Schotter geboten haben.
Der Sonntag wäre beinahe vergangen ohne das ich mich überhaupt aus dem Haus bewegt hätte, aber dann haben mich 2 der Mädels aus der Gruppe gefragt ob ich nicht Lust hätte mir mit ihnen einen Chinamarkt anzugucken:
Der markt war ziemlich klein, aber nachdem wir alles gesehn hatten, haben wir uns einfach in eine Bar gesetzt, ein paar Bier getrunken und gelabert.
Montag hab ich mich dann mit Christina getroffen, sie hatte mir mein Zimmer hier besorgt. Wir sind zu einem Regenjacken outletstore gefahren, wo ich mir auch glatt eine gekauft habe, danach sind wir noch nach costco wo ich dann 2 jeans und eine Softshelljacke erstanden habe.
Am Dienstag bin ich nach Granville Island gefahren und habe da bis abends in einem Cafe gesessen und 3 Kapitel aus dem Buch für KI gelesen, die wir zu lesen aufbekommen hatten:

Da habe ich ne ganze Zeit gesessen, mir die Boote angeguckt und Möwen dabei zugesehen wie sie Leuten das Essen vom Teller geklaut haben :D:
Später am selben abend hab ich mich dann mit den beiden Mädels (Sophie und Vivian) in Gastown auf ein Bier getroffen. Dort haben wir dann abgemacht und am Freitag bei IHOP zum Frühstück zu treffen.
